Company Description
In 1871, two brothers, George and James Weir founded the engineering firm of G. & J. Weir, joining the booming industry of the West Coast of Scotland. Both engineers, the brothers developed ground-breaking inventions including the celebrated direct-acting feed pump. It was crucial to the development of steam ships at that time and helped support the rapid growth of transatlantic trade. Today, The Weir Group PLC is one of the world’s leading engineering businesses serving mining, infrastructure and oil and gas customers in more than 50 countries. From our foundation we’ve always sought to solve our customers’ toughest challenges. It is what engineers do, and it is what Weir does best. We have chosen to serve natural resources markets because they are vital to current and future economic development. As the world’s population grows and increasingly urbanises it will require more infrastructure from roads and buildings to electric vehicles and renewable grids. While these resources are essential they need to be accessed and processed responsibly and sustainably. That is where innovative engineers – expert problem solvers – have a crucial role to play. It is why we work in partnership with our customers to engineer solutions that make their operations safer, more efficient and more sustainable.
